I grew up over 60 miles from the nearest river; so naturally, I became interested in rivers and water resources. My research interests are focused on river engineering and habitat enhancement as well as spatial analysis and modeling. My current work focuses on effective monitoring of dam removal projects.
I am also interested in the development of ecological engineering as a recognized professional field of study. For this reason I am involved with the ecological engineering undergraduate program here at Oregon State.
I grew up in a county with less than 100ft of vertical relief in 900 square miles; so naturally, my personal time is now spent in the mountains, exploring, hiking and climbing. I have worked for the National Outdoor Leadership School since 2001 leading backpacking and mountaineering courses. I was a volunteer working with Peace Corps in Bolivia from 2006 to 2008 developing drinking water systems for underserved communities. When not in the mountains or overseas, I like growing blueberries and looking at birds in my backyard.
